REEDS Motor Group honours General Motors’ commitment to existing customers

General Motors announced their exit from the SA market in May 2017. This followed a global shift in GM strategy. Chevrolet will no longer be sold in right-hand drive countries. GM motors has a strong following in the local market. So, at first, this news came as a shock to many owners of GM cars and bakkies.

However, the future looks bright. General Motors SA looked after their motorists. This was proven when General Motors South Africa shared their plans for Opel and Isuzu. Here is the short of the long:

What will happen to Isuzu?

GM South Africa sold its light commercial vehicle building operations to Isuzu. The brand will continue to grow in South Africa.

And Opel?

GM Motors SA was sold to the PSA Group. Williams Hunt Group is now the sole distributor of Opel in South Africa. REEDS forms part of this group. Our branches will continue to sell and market Opel in South Africa. This will be done via our network of 35 dealerships.

How about existing Chevrolet owners?

GM SA took care of everything. Aftersales and parts support will continue with existing dealers until the end of 2017. Existing warranties and service plans will remain in place. REEDS will assist these motorists from 2018. This includes General Motors Cape Town customers. Chevrolet, Isuzu and Opel owners throughout the country will enjoy the same service.

Chevrolet servicing and parts will be done by Opel dealerships. Williams Hunt (REEDS) received this mandate along with Opel distribution. At REEDS, we see this as a high honour. We will ensure that every customer receives quality care. This includes supplying GM parts. We will also facilitate repairs via GM-approved panel beaters. It will take some time before everything is settled. More news on servicing opportunities will be released once confirmed.

Should I be selling my GM vehicle?

That is completely up to you. GM used cars sell easily with the help of an accredited GM dealer. As trusted General Motors dealers, REEDS will continue to offer GM used cars for sale. If you feel like selling, contact your closest branch. We aren’t technically a GM dealership anymore. But motorists will still enjoy seamless sales service.

REEDS is proud to continue our association with global GM dealers. We can’t wait to drive Opel to new heights! Join us on this new journey. Get in touch if you need any more info about Isuzu, Chevrolet and Opel in South Africa. We are happy to assist you in any way possible.
